Doordarshan is the largest terrestrial broadcaster of world that has more than 1400 terrestrial TV transmitters across the country which covers approx. 90% of geographical area of India. Currently, Doordarshan is telecasting total of 59 FTA TV channels and 21 All India Radio channels on its DTH platform which can be received on Free-to Air (FTA) basis by consumers throughout India.
As per recent press release, Doordarshan has increased number of TV channels to 100 on its DTH platform and All India radio channels to 40. Prasar Bharti has planned to add 100 more channels by 31st Mar 2011 and provide up to 200 free to air TV channels by 31st Dec 2011. The planning for increasing no of channels to 200 is done in response to growing popularity of DD DTH service and to fulfil the DD aim to have maximum viewership for providing coverage to as much population of the country as possible.

DD Direct Plus is using the services of Satellite INSAT4B Ku-band high power satellite that is positioned at 95° E.
